I believe in the power of the written word. I hope to instill in my students the knowledge that how we communicate, that is to say how we write and how we speak, is of the utmost importance in every aspect of their lives, both inside and outside of the classroom.
The epigraph of E.M Forster’s novel Howards End reads “only connect.” This reminds me of what I try to do as a teacher, to not only form connections and meaningful relationships with my students but to encourage them to find connection in literature; connection between the head and the heart, between thought and feelings.
