School Vision

Mission Statement

The mission of GPA is to prepare global leaders who can demonstrate creative intelligence, professional knowledge, and compassion for the world and its inhabitants. Also, by recognizing the rising financial burden placed on families seeking an overseas education we offer a rigorous American school curriculum education and special programs here in Jeonju, South Korea.

In 2006, educational leaders at Jeonju University, including then-president Dr Namsik Lee, recognized a need for a local middle & high school that would prepare students for university studies abroad. They envisioned an international curriculum that would prepare students seeking post-secondary education outside of Korea. This resulted in the creation of the Global Prodigy Academy (GPA) located on the campus of Jeonju University. The school opened its doors in February 2006 to a small number of high school students.

Since then, GPA has continued to grow and increase in size throughout the following years. In addition, the school has added a middle school, implemented a challenging academic curriculum (which includes AP courses), and provided students with opportunities for leadership and extracurricular opportunities.

GPA is a college-preparatory school with the goal of preparing students academically, physically, and socially for the global society and to help them become leaders with broad perspectives and high expectations for themselves and others.

What is unique about GPA? How do we stand out from the other schools here in South Korea?

  • GPA provides a unique learning environment that reflects a North American style school. All subjects are taught in English using an American-based education curriculum that follows the National Common Core standards.
  • Teaching is generally student-centered. Teachers are encouraged to use methods of best practice in their teaching.
  • GPA offers various fine arts electives: Visual Arts, Orchestra, and Digital Art.
  • All subjects are taught by qualified teachers.
  • The majority of teachers are licensed in their subject area or in the process of getting their education degree or licensure.
  • The current faculty and staff come from diverse backgrounds and bring with them different experiences. They reflect the diversity in the majority of North American Colleges and Universities today.
  • Small class sizes resulting in individual attention. Current Student/Teacher ratio is 5:1.
